T17516 is failing on Darwin

T17516 is failing due to a metric increase on Darwin. Other platforms are unnaffected.

Examples:

The next merge batch is about to fail, too: !3815 (closed). I restarted the Darwin job several times, but the test fails consistently.

Individually, each commit in the batch passes CI. cc @bgamari
