Validating on a PPC Mac OS X: Fix miscellaneous errors and warnings

Validating a recent GHC HEAD with

$ uname -a

Attached a patch that seems to fix his problem. Then:

Fixed by the third patch attached. Fourth:

compiler/vectorise/Vectorise/Utils/PRDict.hs:16:1:

compiler/vectorise/Vectorise/Utils/PRDict.hs:17:1:

Failing due to -Werror.

Fixed by a fourth patch. Then:

(This was also reported in http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/cvs-ghc/2010-December/058433.html.) With a sixth patch, we get past this obstacle as well.
