Remove Hugs reference in the opening paragraph of Ch. 4 in User's guide
Summary
The opening paragraph of Chapter 4 in User's Guide contains the sentence
If you’re familiar with Hugs, then you’ll be right at home with GHCi.
I think the people, who are still familiar with Hugs, are most certainly familiar with GHCi by now.
Proposed improvements or changes
The simplest change is to remove the sentence and the word "However" starting the next sentence, so that the first paragraph in Chapter 4 of User's guide would read
GHCi is GHC’s interactive environment, in which Haskell expressions can be interactively evaluated and programs can be interpreted. GHCi also has support for interactively loading compiled code, as well as supporting all the language extensions that GHC provides. GHCi also includes an interactive debugger (see The GHCi Debugger (page 34)).
It can be worthwhile to reformulate this paragraph in accordance with technical writing recommendations, but I don't have any strong feeling about this. My attempt in this direction would be something like:
GHCi is GHC's interactive environment that includes an interactive debugger (see The GHCi Debugger (page 34)).
GHCi can
- interactively evaluate Haskell expressions
- interpret Haskell programs
- load GHC-compiled modules.
At the moments GHCi supports all GHC's language extensions except
foreign export
.
Environment
- GHC version used: 8.10.1
