the 'impossible' happened at compile time on PowerMac with Intel Core i5, but not on Apple M1

When compiling a program using ghc --make the compiler crashed reporting:
ghc: panic! (the 'impossible' happened)
(GHC version 8.2.2 for x86_64-apple-darwin):
