documentation: supported platforms

Is it possible to have a list of supported platforms somewhere at a prominent place? I’m particularly worried about Windows (native v WSL 1 v WSL 2). People bump into #117 (closed) (example), and it’s not easy to diagnose. I excavated #117 (closed) using search but novices are not always capable of that. There should be a loud warning about WSL 1 incompatibility. But a list of supported platforms can also help.
